Idea Marathon: NextGen in Kneževi Vinogradi (Croatia)

Meaningful youth participation starts with creating spaces where young people feel welcome to meet, exchange ideas and know that their voices truly matter.

At the Youth Hub activity in Kneževi Vinogradi, young people and local residents came together to talk about life in their community, share different perspectives and imagine ways to make their village an even better place to live.

Through open discussions, participants explored both the challenges and opportunities of growing up in a rural area while recognising the strengths and potential that already exist within their community. Their ideas for future initiatives and improvements were captured on an Idea Wall, showcasing practical ways to build a more active, connected and youth-friendly local environment.

The programme also featured a Living Library, offering participants the chance to engage in honest conversations, ask questions and discover new perspectives through personal stories and experiences. Beyond the organised activities, the event created valuable opportunities for young people to connect, build new friendships and strengthen existing relationships.

For many young people in rural communities, opportunities to gather, express their ideas and actively participate in local life remain limited. Activities like this help bridge that gap by creating welcoming spaces where young people can feel a stronger sense of belonging, gain confidence in their voices and become active contributors to the future of their communities.
